Mountains at First Light
An interior designer brought me to Virginia to give this Airbnb a focal point guests would remember. The wall sits beneath a steep staircase, framed by warm cedar and an angled ceiling—an unusual shape that became the best part of the design.
Working With the Architecture
Instead of treating the staircase as an obstacle, I followed its slope. The bands of color climb with the railing, while layered mountains and dark pine silhouettes settle the composition at floor level. The palette adds energy without fighting the cabin’s natural wood.
Before the First Color
The wall began as a blank, awkward triangle interrupted by a thermostat, vent, and support beam. Every line had to be measured around those fixed elements. The before-and-after photos show how a custom mural can make a difficult wall feel intentional.
Painted On Location in Virginia
I traveled from South Florida to complete the mural on site, working from the designer’s vision and adapting the sketch to the room in real time. Projects like this are why I work nationwide: the most interesting walls are not always close to home.
