The Sweet Science

Boxing & MMA Gym Murals

Two walls, two ways of looking at the sport. For this gym project, I paired the precision of boxing with an unexpected reference to classical art. Purple runs through both compositions, tying them together across the training space.

The art of the counter

Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier appear in grayscale beneath the words “The Sweet Science.” Red lines trace balance, weight distribution, and the setup for a counter. I wanted the wall to reward a closer look: the figures catch your eye first, then the diagrams draw you into the mechanics of the exchange. The texture of the block wall stays visible beneath the painted portraits.

A different kind of creation

On the second wall, I reworked the reaching hands from Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, suspending a pair of red boxing gloves between the fingertips. Warm skin tones and worn leather sit against loose violet circles. It is a quieter image beside the boxing scene, with the same attention to hands, control, and human movement.

A mural made for the training floor

Together, the walls give the gym its own visual language: portraiture, movement, and small details that make sense to the people training there every day. Each composition was painted for its wall rather than treated as a repeatable graphic.
